About Me
Started my Railway Career Dec 1962 age 15 at 73j British Railways Tonbridge Motive Power Depot as the lowest of the low a Cleaner. Tonbridge was a Steam & Diesel/Electric Depot. Became the last steam trained fireman on the South Eastern Region of British Railways spent about 18 months at Tonbridge then Transferred to Hither Green which was Diesel/Electric.
However the first day I arrived at Hither Green Was told that as I was steam trained I would be looking after a Black Five which a Midland Crew had dumped on the Old coal road and gone home to there depot so I would have to look after it until a new crew arrived so for three days looked after it day & night brilliant all on overtime and free meals. Hither green had no steam trained fireman.
Whilst there I worked most rest days on loan to Stewart's Lane as they where short of steam trained fireman spent my time going from Victoria to Brighton and back on the old electric loco's which had a steam boiler for the heating. Made redundant in 1973.
Have run my own companies from Contract Cleaning with 20 staff to a Computer Repair Company.
