The NS locomotive series 1500 is an electric locomotive used by the Dutch Railways between 1970 and 1986. They were second-hand locomotives from British Rail where they ran as Class EM2. They were used by British Rail on the so-called "Woodhead route," the Manchester - Sheffield line. This line was the only one in Britain that was electrified with 1500V DC voltage. When passenger service on this line was discontinued in 1970, they were taken out of service and put up for sale. However, part of this Woodhead route is still in use.
