A metro (also underground or city railway) is a form of public railway transport within urban areas

A metro uses a conflict-free track, so that no interaction with other traffic is possible.

This means that the line is usually constructed in a tunnel ("underground" or "mole train") or on a viaduct and therefore only has grade-separated crossings.

The metro is characterized by a high frequency of service and a large passenger capacity and is between a train and a tram in terms of speed, station distance and weight of the rolling stock.
